Mixing as a method
Mixed media means that several materials work in one picture: paint, ink, chalk, paper, sand or wax, each with its own surface. Mixed-media paintings for sale from 2,000 to 5,000 euro let you compare styles from abstraction to drawing.
Each material brings something: pencil gives fine lines, paper supplies surface, acrylic opacity. How they come together is the handwriting of the piece. Good mixed techniques never look overloaded but clearly ordered. Think of a workshop floor on which every material has left a trace.

Typical combinations
Common are acrylic paint with drawing in pencil or glued-on paper. Abstract compositions go well with them, since materials can be set freely. An abstract picture with sand looks entirely different in light from one with smooth ink.
Durability in view
Ask about adhesives, fixing and protective layers, especially when soft materials such as charcoal or pastel are involved. Framed behind glass, with some distance to the surface, such pictures are well protected. A photo of the back and a list of materials make a good basis for the decision.
