Oil paint and its quirks
Oil as a technique covers everything from the small wood panel to the large canvas format, and the paint stays slow and deep throughout. Oil paintings for sale in the 2,000 to 5,000 euro range can be approached through support, style and handwriting.
Oil dries slowly and stays workable for long. That allows fine gradients and corrections but demands patience. Freshly painted pictures are often touch sensitive for days and fully cured only after months. With smaller formats especially, the brush stroke in oil is easy to see and almost possible to follow.

Classical and beyond
The medium is closely tied to classical painting, where glazes and light-dark contrasts count. Oil paint suits freer, modern positions with knife application just as well.
Hanging and protection
Oil pictures tolerate neither moisture nor direct heat. Choose an interior wall and keep away from radiators. Ask about varnish, and you will know how the picture wants to be cared for later. Note too that oil pictures are often framed, since a profile supports the depth of the paint.
