Depth in the hue
Oil on canvas feels heavy and warm even without a stylistic program, because oil paint absorbs light deeply. Oil paintings on canvas under 500 euro for sale are open to anyone who gives the subject free rein and follows the color.
Dark tones in oil are never quite black, they glimmer brownish, greenish, or bluish. That gives an interior or a coastal scene space at once. Light areas stay creamy and have a soft edge. Earth tones laid over a dark underpainting look especially warm.

Feeling the canvas
Fine weave gives a smooth, almost porcelain surface, while coarse linen stresses the brushstroke. If you may later want to resell or gift the piece, look for an evenly stretched frame and clean corners. If you plan to hang it unframed, look for tidy finished sides.
Expectations on a modest budget
At this price level, originals tend to be studies, small formats, and younger positions. Oil paintings may hang near a window as long as no direct sun falls on them. If the varnish is still missing, the listing should say when it will be applied.
