Painted with restraint
The stillness of a single hue carries further than a crowded picture when it is cleanly made. Minimalist paintings in acrylic and mixed media for sale live from that care and a touch of material that animates the surface.
Several coats of acrylic, applied paper-thin, produce a surface that looks velvety up close. A worked-in strip of linen or paper divides the field without disturbing it. The effect arises from proportions: size of surface to edge, density of color to emptiness. Anyone who likes minimalist paintings therefore looks at proportion and at the quality of the edge where the color stops.

Using white space
A minimalist painting needs white space, so it belongs on a free wall. Raking light shows fine relief that vanishes in backlight. For framing, choose a slim ledge or none at all.
Checking more closely
With reduced pictures, scratches and dents stand out. Ask for condition photos in raking light, and for details on support and edge treatment. A shot of the back tells you about hanging and weight.
