Rich and colorful
Oil pastels are made of pigment, oil and wax and never dry out completely, which is why their colors stay rich and creamy. Mixed media works with oil pastel are for sale here for people who like strong, slightly glossy strokes.
Unlike dry pastels, oil pastels do not dust. They can be scratched, layered and dissolved with turpentine into painterly fields. In mixed practice they meet watercolor, ink or acrylic, since wax repels water and creates appealing patterns. The playful side belongs to it. Many oil pastel works show incisions, finger marks and layering that make the sheet tangible. That is exactly the difference from a printed poster: you recognize the movement of the hand.

Care
Oil pastel stays soft and can get tacky in heat. Do not hang the sheet by a radiator, frame it behind glass with a mat, and store it with tissue paper between sheets.
