Flowing and precise at once
Ink brings line and wash to paper or canvas and combines with pencil, acrylic or collage. Mixed-media works in ink for sale put drawn and painted qualities on a single sheet.
Ink can be drawn fine with a nib or run with a brush. Water-soluble inks bleed softly, waterproof ones stay put when paint is laid over them. This double nature makes ink an ideal mixed technique: you can paint underneath, draw on top and build steps in between.

Mind the lightfastness
Some colored inks fade under light, while black India ink and iron gall ink are more stable. Ask about the ink type and hang sheets behind UV-protective glass. The paper should be acid-free so the ink does not yellow.
