A suspended geometry where structure dissolves into transformation

Original artwork description

“The Threshold Diamond” is a unique contemporary sculpture by French artist Philippe Buil, exploring the moment of transition where structure gives way to transformation.

Built around four interlocking squares, the composition gradually rotates to reveal the form of a suspended diamond—emerging not as a fixed object, but as the result of movement and perception. These geometric frames act as symbolic thresholds, inviting the viewer to move through successive layers of space and meaning.

While the structure appears precise and architectural at first glance, the material tells another story. The edges dissolve into irregular, organic textures, shaped by Buil’s signature metal lace technique. Molten steel and bronze flow freely, creating a delicate network that both supports and disrupts the geometry.

At the center, a denser bronze core emerges—like a crystallization point born from tension and transformation. This nucleus introduces warmth and gravity, contrasting with the surrounding openness and lightness.

The sculpture embodies a dialogue between opposites: order and chaos, structure and erosion, void and matter. The “threshold” is not a boundary but an in-between space—a moment suspended where something new begins to appear.

Entirely handmade, each piece is unique, shaped by an unpredictable process where control and spontaneity coexist. “The Threshold Diamond” is a contemplative and architectural artwork, ideal for collectors drawn to conceptual and geometric contemporary sculpture.
