Taking away, building up, casting
Sculpting is the oldest way of turning material into shape, and it is still handwork today. Sculpted works for sale come in stone, wood, clay, metal or acrylic, from tabletop to floor.
Depending on the material, the sculptor works with chisel, rasp, knife or hand. Wood and stone are carved away, clay and loam built up, metal welded or cast. Each method leaves different traces, and the traces are what counts.

Keep weight in mind
Even small works weigh more than you think. Check dimensions, material and surface, and plan the standing spot beforehand. A plinth of wood or stone supports the effect and protects furniture.
