A tree as counterpart
Wood sculpture is the quiet counterpart to stone and metal: it feels soft, smells of forest and darkens with time. Wood sculptures for sale appear as abstract forms or as figures, carved from a trunk or joined from several parts.
Whoever carves wood follows the growth: cracks, branches, rings. A curving abstract form can grow out of the natural bend of a branch, a figure out of an upright trunk. The wood keeps working, which explains small cracks and slight deformations.

Species and finishes
Linden is soft and fine, oak strong and hard, walnut dark and noble, pear even. Oiled, woods look rich and alive, waxed they look silky, painted entirely different. More pieces sit under wood as a material, and a typical price band is 1,000 to 2,000 euro.
Room climate
Radiator air and blazing sun are the biggest enemies of wood. A spot with even humidity keeps the sculpture calm. A dry cloth is enough for cleaning, occasional wax or oil refreshes it.
