More finishing, more surface
Between a lump of clay and a finished sculpture there are often weeks: building, drying, bisque firing, glazing, firing again. Clay sculptures for sale at 1,000 to 2,000 euro come with somewhat more size and more finishing than the small pieces.

Fired clay weighs more than you expect. Check dimensions and weight in the listing before settling on a spot. Shelves should be firm and level, windowsills frost-free. A sculpture with a narrow foot needs a secure stance so tremors do not tip it. Multiple firings often show in rich color and smooth glaze, while a single firing keeps the tones more restrained. Ask about the firing temperature if the work will be handled daily.
