The weight of paint
In an expressionist oil painting the paint itself becomes the expression: heavy, wet, in thick tracks you would like to follow with a finger. Expressionist oil paintings on canvas for sale from 5,000 to 10,000 euro are best chosen by looking at density, contrast and drying status.
Oil allows paint to be applied so thickly that it acts like a material. Ridges and crests catch the light and cast shadows, so the picture looks different depending on the time of day. Such paintings need months to dry through completely and should be moved with matching care.

Contrasts that carry
Complementary colors sit hard against each other, such as orange next to blue or red next to green. Dark outlines often lie between. These opposites make sure the picture still reads clearly from far away and stays present in the room.
Hanging and notes
With large, densely painted canvases, expect considerable weight, and check the wall and the hanging. Ask about varnish, stretcher build and packing for transport, so the surface arrives undamaged.
