On canvas, wood, or board
Oil is more than a paint, it is an attitude to time: slow, deep, layered. Here you can find oil paintings for sale in the 1,000 to 2,000 euro range where technique and expression come together.
Oil includes pictures on quite different supports. On wood the paint stands firm and smooth, on board somewhat drier, on canvas soft and with tooth. What they share is the binder linseed oil, which lets the paint harden slowly and keeps its depth of color.

Styles in oil
Whether gestural with thick paint or abstract with fine glazes, oil can be used very differently. A larger format gives the picture the calm it needs to show its layers. More on the paint is under oil paint.
Care and expectation
Oil needs time to dry fully, and varnish follows later. Ask about both as well as age and frame. Remove dust dry, and avoid heating, sun, and damp. That way the color stays stable for many years.
