The canvas as the ground
Painting, paper, fabric, and found objects mix in acrylic and collage on canvas into pictures with a tangible surface. Here you can find paintings in this technique for sale between 1,000 and 2,000 euro that have grown layer by layer.
On the canvas, things are glued, painted over, sanded down, and added again. Acrylic holds it all together: as binder, as color, as protection. Paper edges, folds, and fragments of lettering stay visible and give the picture a story. This comes across especially clearly in collage pictures.

Paint, paper, light
Depending on the angle, sheen and shadow change. Side light brings out edges, diffuse light calms. A wall that offers few distractions makes sense, so the details can be discovered. A plain frame or a painted edge is enough.
Care with condition
Ask about the incorporated materials, the adhesive, and the varnish. Paper especially can darken if it is not acid-free. A canvas with added layers is heavier; check hooks and wall.
