Supports shape the stroke
Oil on different supports, from wood to canvas, gives painting character. Paintings in oil for 1,000 to 2,000 euro are for sale here, with supports and techniques that adapt to their motif.
On a smooth wood panel the brush glides and allows the finest detail. On coarse canvas paint catches in the hollows, on aluminum it stands glossy. The choice of support is part of the picture idea and shows how a painter thinks.

Weight and hanging
Wood panels and large plates are heavier than canvases. Plan a stable fixing with suitable anchors. With panels the back should carry firm hanging hardware that keeps the picture straight and prevents tipping.
Details you can ask about
Ask about primer, varnish and the age of the paint layer. A description with a photo of the back shows whether the picture is inscribed and signed. That makes it easy to judge the quality of the work.
