Oil in a small dose
Oil paint on canvas was long reserved for large formats, but small abstract oil pictures have an appeal of their own. For under 500 euro you can find abstract oil-on-canvas paintings for sale that show paint very physically.
Even on a few square centimeters oil stays creamy and rich. You see bristle marks, raised ridges of paint and soft transitions acrylic cannot reach. The gloss of the oil layer shifts with the light, which makes small pictures surprisingly lively.

Drying and care
Oil needs months to dry through. Do not rub the picture, only dust it dry, and keep it out of damp rooms. A varnish protects and evens out the gloss. Ask whether that has been done.
Place at home
A small oil picture works best where you can get close: in the hallway, the study, by the bed. A dark wood frame gives it weight, a slim shadow-gap frame makes it modern.
