What paint really is
Color is the original material of painting, and the form in which it reaches the support shapes the whole picture. If you want paintings in color for sale, you can compare tones across their whole range, from soft pastel to dense black.
Every paint consists of pigment and binder. The binder determines the character: oil shines deep, acrylic stands matte and clear, tempera looks chalky. A glance at the technique line therefore says a lot about surface, drying and care.

Color effect in the room
Warm tones bring walls closer, cool ones widen the space. A strongly colored painting can define a plain room, a restrained one complements furniture and textiles. Before buying, try how a picture looks in daylight and under lamp light.
A feel for quality
In the details, watch the support, the size and the signature. To get your bearings, compare how the paint is applied: glazed, opaque or thick. That describes the hand and the attitude of the painter.
