Pigment, barely bound
Pastel is almost pure pigment with very little binder, which is exactly where its velvety, luminous color comes from. Mixed media works with pastel are for sale here for people who like matte tones and delicate transitions.
Dry color rests on the paper surface like dust on a wing. It can be rubbed, mixed and layered, and it stays bright because hardly any binder clouds the light. In mixed technique, ink, gouache or collage join in and give the soft material a hold.

Styles and prices
Pastel combines with painting especially readily, when color planes and dry accents carry each other. For a middle bracket, look at the works from 500 to 1,000 euro.
Frame and protection
Pastel belongs behind glass, with a mat or spacer so pigment does not cling to the glazing. Keep it out of direct sunlight, since some pigments fade. For transport, prefer flat and well padded.
