Anyone who carves wood knows the material precisely: grain direction, drying, knot clusters. That knowledge shows in places where the form does not tear out and the surface does not splinter. A well-carved piece feels smooth even where you would not expect it.

Note species, dimensions and weight. Ask about signature, year and surface treatment. Wood does not tolerate sudden warmth or damp, so plan the location to be calm and even.
