Carved, not cast

Unlike casting or gluing, a wooden figure comes about by removal. That makes each piece final, because a mistake cannot be balanced out. That is why you see the cut: surfaces where the gouge faceted, and transitions the eye falls into.

Linden suits fine detail, oak strong forms, cherry warm tones, maple pale surfaces. The listing should name the species. A note on the surface, whether waxed, oiled or raw, shows how the wood will age.
Mind the stance
Check whether a foot is carved on and how high the center of gravity sits. In a band up to 2,000 euro a lot of craft is possible, but here too signature and year of making should be stated clearly.
