Painting on glass, pressing on paper
A monotype arises from painting on a smooth plate and a single pull brought out by the press. Anyone who wants to buy monotypes for sale values the one-of-a-kind and the spontaneity of the moment.
On a surface of glass or metal, paint is applied, wiped, scratched, and layered. Then paper is laid on and rubbed down. The pull appears reversed and with chance structures that no brush alone produces. Thinly applied paint gives delicate veils, thick paint rich edges.

Many moods
Depending on style, monotypes look entirely different: graphic and clear, minimalist and still, or Impressionist and soft. Acrylic yields matte, fast-drying tones that can be layered without running.
Checking a single piece
Since there is no edition, title, year, and signature should appear on the sheet. Ask about paper, image size, and sheet size. If you want to limit your budget, you can look for monotypes under 500 euro, often in handy formats. Where documentation is sparse, a photo of the sheet edge helps.
