When photo and drawing meet
Charcoal is the oldest drawing material, and in photography it appears as black dust on the picture or in the printing process. Anyone looking for charcoal photographs for sale chooses between drawing on the print and charcoal-like printing.
Some artists go over the print with charcoal: shadows are deepened, contours traced, areas smudged. The result sits between drawing and photography, with velvety black and a surface you can see in raking light.

Delicate and beautiful
Charcoal stays vulnerable: it can rub off if the sheet is touched. A frame with space between the glass and the surface, and a fixative applied by the artist, protect it. Do not hang the picture in damp rooms or in direct sun.
Further paths
If you look for a style, see impressionism; for larger sheets, the 1,000 to 2,000 euro tier. There are also color works with charcoal parts. Ask about fixation, paper and signature.
