Material as a decision
Oil paint on wood, canvas or metal in the higher price range often stands for works with special demands on material and attitude. You can find oil paintings from 5,000 to 10,000 euro on different supports for sale here.
Whoever chooses costly material does so out of conviction. A finely sanded wood panel permits glass-like glazes, aluminum gives cool brilliance, canvas warms the tone. The technique line in the description reveals how consciously the support was chosen.

Hanging and protection
Heavy panels require fixing systems matched to the weight. Edges and corners are delicate and should be protected in transport and hanging. Provide stable humidity, since wood responds to climate swings.
Proof and advice
Ask for a certificate, signature and date, as well as detail shots of the surface and the back. Ask about the primer, the varnish and how the work is professionally packed. Good details show that the piece was carefully documented.
