When material speaks
Mixed media lets oil meet other materials and creates pictures with many textures. You can find mixed-media paintings from 1,000 to 2,000 euro for sale here in which experiment and craft come together.
Alongside oil paint, sand, paper, fabric, wax, ink or metal foil enter the picture. Each material brings its own feel. The interplay is the appeal: rough meets smooth, matte meets glossy, drawing meets surface. In this price band the layers are often carefully composed.

Viewing and raking light
Such works live on closeness. Plan a spot where the picture is seen from a short distance and light falls from the side, such as a hallway wall. Then relief and change of material show most impressively.
Collecting care notes
Ask about all components of the picture and about the sealing. Delicate elements may need glass. Have it explained how the surface is best dusted as well.
