The short brushstroke
Impressionism does not paint the object, it paints the light resting on it. If you want impressionist oil paintings for sale, you will find pictures built from flecks of light, reflections and short brushstrokes, matching oil on canvas.
Instead of mixing colors on the palette, impressionists set them side by side. The eye does the mixing while looking. A green beside a red-violet shimmers more vividly than a premixed brown. Oil stays soft enough for wet-in-wet passages and thick enough to hold the stroke. Typical are water surfaces, gardens, streets in haze and faces in backlight.

Looking from a distance
Up close such a picture feels like a storm of color, and only several steps back does it settle into a scene. Plan some room space for that. Warm daylight makes the palette glow. The shadows are seldom gray, more often painted blue or violet.
Finding your budget
Impressionist oils come in many sizes. The pages under 500 euro and 500 to 1,000 euro sort by budget.
