Pictures that mean more
Symbols, signs and visual riddles carry meaning without spelling it out: a bird, a door, a circle. Symbolist mixed media on paper is for sale here for anyone looking for a picture that opens up slowly.
Symbolism lives on suggestion. A touch of gold, a piece of thread or a fragment of old script can say more than a scene. Paper suits this well, as it carries delicate things and holds glued parts without weight. Symbols can be very personal. That is why it matters that you feel a connection of your own to the sheet. Nothing needs to be explained, since it should simply accompany you as you walk past. Titles in the description sometimes offer a first hint.

Calm in the room
Such sheets need time and a place where people linger: a bedroom, a desk, a landing. Discreet frames and wall colors in muted tones keep the picture still. If you favor line, see the drawings; for a lower starting point, pieces under 500 euro.
Notes on materials
Gold and silver pigments, thread or natural materials need special care. Ask how they are fixed and whether the frame has enough depth for what sits on the surface.
