Flickering color, tactile layers
Impressionist work thrives on light that flickers in dabs and short strokes instead of resting in smooth fields. Impressionist mixed media in acrylic for sale here may include paper, gauze or texture paste worked into the surface, which responds to raking light.
Acrylic dries matte and quick, so dabs of color can sit side by side without running together. Mixing in paper, gauze or gel strengthens the sense of atmosphere: a translucent scrap of paper can suggest haze, a gel stroke the glitter on water. Typical are short, adjacent brush dabs in green, blue and warm yellow that only blend in the eye. Embedded pieces of paper scatter the light further and bring the surface to life.

Hanging and lighting
Impressionist pictures need distance so the dabs resolve into one image. Hang them where daylight falls from the side and the paint surface gains depth. Warm light favors yellows and reds, cooler light the blues and greens.
