Tone against tone
Without a motif, gouache shows its strengths most clearly: coverage, mattness, color intensity. You can find abstract mixed media with gouache for sale here if you like sheets with clear color fields and flecks of material.
Abstract gouaches set colors side by side so that contrast arises without noise. Collaged papers, graphite or ink create small breaks. The matte surface takes in light without mirroring it. Typical are large, calm color zones interrupted by a line, a cut or a stain. Because gouache covers so evenly, these interruptions read like deliberate punctuation in the picture.

Watching the paper
Gouache on paper needs a mat so the sheet does not stick to the glass. Check paper type and format in the description. Do not hang sheets in damp rooms or at south-facing windows.
