Oil without a motif
Abstract painting in oil lets color itself become the subject: it flows, pools, covers or gives way. You can find abstract mixed media with oil paint for sale here if depth and material presence matter more to you than a motif.
Without objects, you see how versatile oil is. Thinly glazed it acts like light, thickly applied like skin. Additions such as paper, sand or wax set contrasts on which the eye holds. Typical are color fields that overlap and release edges, plus palette-knife traces and areas where the oil stands as thin as a glaze. The interplay of density and transparency makes up the depth.

Abstract pictures work in many rooms, from living room to stairwell, as long as they have calm around them. Do not hang them too high, because depth shows when looking from below and from the side.

More on the technique is under mixed media. If you are setting a budget for originals in a higher price band, 2,000 to 5,000 euro leads to larger formats and more mature work.
