Abstraction in layers
Without a subject, oil can be experienced most freely: color that stands in the field, spreads and releases layers. You can find abstract mixed media in oil paint for sale from 2,000 to 5,000 euro if you want originals with space and density.
Oil stays workable for a long time, so color fields can merge wet into wet while sand, wax or paper supply edges. In the end the picture has grown more than it was planned. The eye looks for a hold and finds it in textures: a furrow in thick oil, a paper edge, a wax rim. These anchor points turn a non-representational picture into a space you can wander through.

A high price band, high expectations
For originals at this level, larger formats and demanding supports are generally usual. Read the information on structure closely, because in abstract painting the structure reveals much about the working method.
Hanging and light
Abstract oil pictures keep their effect from far and near. Plan a wall where the picture can also be seen from the side, since gloss and relief change with the angle. Warm, soft light suits it best.
