Distorted, crowded, charged
Expressionism draws what you feel, not what you see, and charcoal is a willing tool for that: raw, black, fast. Expressionist charcoal drawings for sale are found under charcoal or in the tier under 500 euro.
Faces turn angular, bodies bend, architecture tilts. Charcoal carries this exaggeration because it goes on thick and can still be smeared. The darkest spots often sit right next to bare paper, a hard cut of light and dark that recalls the woodcuts of the Brücke years.

Rooms that handle tension
Expressionist sheets work well in rooms with plenty of wall and little furniture. A deep black frame repeats the charcoal and adds pressure, a lighter frame relaxes it. Do not hang the sheet near a radiator, and look for notes on fixing, since thick charcoal layers flake more easily.
Buying notes
Expressionist charcoal is sometimes large and built on several sheets. Check the dimensions before planning your wall. A photo in daylight shows the depth of the black better than a shot with flash.
