Deceptive yet drawn
Graphite seems made for photorealistic drawing: it can be sharpened hair-fine, toned in countless steps and still gleams ever so slightly. You can buy photorealistic graphite drawings for sale here, whether as a sketch or at the level 500 to 1,000 euro.
Metal, glass, skin, cloth: every surface gets its own grey value and grain. The eye looks for the stroke and barely finds it. Only in raking light does the graphite give itself away, and with it the handwork.

Close in, then back
Such sheets make you walk back and forth. Up close you see the craft, from afar the impression. A room that allows both shows them best, ideally with soft, even light. Anyone who lights the room wisely, for instance with a warm spot from above at an angle, turns the sheet into a quiet center that feels even stronger in the evening than by day.
What matters when buying
Ask for detail images and for notes on paper and pencil grades. A signature and, if available, a certificate of authenticity help place the sheet safely later on.
