Color without binder
Pastel is drawing and painting at once: you hold the chalk like a pencil but lay down fields of color as with a brush. Pastel drawings for sale from 1,000 to 2,000 euro cover many styles, from impressionism to cubism.
Because the chalk consists almost entirely of pigment, pastel sheets glow rich and matte at once. In the tier between 1,000 and 2,000 euro they are often large. The pages on impressionism and cubism show two ways to work with it.

Hanging without risk
Pastel should always hang behind glass, with space to the sheet. A light stained wood or white suits most color schemes. Avoid radiators, south-facing windows and damp rooms so the pigment layer stays stable.
Questions before buying
Learn about paper type and fixing. Ask whether the sheet was mounted and with what. The kind of pastel, whether soft, hard or oil, also affects how sensitive the surface is, especially in transit.
