Vita

Linda Coppens is a Belgian abstract painter now living and working in Torrevieja-Spain.

Her work is rooted in gesture, rhythm, and a direct physical engagement with paint and surface. Her paintings emerge through an intuitive process in which movement, pressure, and color interact immediately on the support.

Earlier works often developed through sustained movement and accumulation, allowing energy to build gradually through repetition and density. In more recent paintings, her focus has shifted toward restraint and timing. By interrupting the process and stopping deliberately, the work is held at the point where coherence begins to form but has not yet settled, preserving a sense of immediacy and unresolved tension.

Across both bodies of work, Coppens’ paintings share a commitment to physical presence and visible decision-making. Marks are not corrected or absorbed, but allowed to coexist—asserting, withdrawing, or fragmenting across the surface. Whether through layered density or held suspension, the work explores how energy can be sustained without resolution, leaving the image open and active.
