Wax as glue and skin
Mixed-media means several materials meet in a single picture, and wax makes an ideal go-between. Abstract mixed-media paintings with wax, offered here for sale, often combine paper, pigment and found fragments.
Wax holds whatever is embedded in it: strips of cloth, newsprint, sand, thread. Over it lies a half-clear layer that binds everything yet leaves it readable. In abstract form this creates textures you almost believe you can feel with your fingertips.

Tension in a room
Because material and color are mixed, the picture changes with the light: cool in the morning, warm and deep in the evening. A spot with shifting daylight pays off, such as a stairwell or a long wall.
What counts when buying
Ask which materials are embedded and whether they sit on a firm support. Notes on care and hanging belong in the description, as do exact dimensions. One curiosity: embedded paper can turn almost see-through in wax, so fragments of script appear as if behind a veil of mist. Details like these are often discovered only weeks after the picture has found its place at home.
