When stains take shape
A surreal watercolor lives from drifting and blurring: water softens borders, and stains turn into figures. Surrealist watercolors under 500 euro for sale appeal to anyone who prefers something dreamlike on paper to a heavy canvas.
Many watercolorists first let paint run free and then find motifs in it, which they bring out with a fine brush. Creatures and landscapes emerge somewhere between chance and intent. That makes every sheet a one-off original. A pinch of salt or a drop of alcohol in the wet ground creates extra texture.

Lightness in the room
Works on paper weigh little and are easy to rehang. A watercolor in a generous mat floats on the wall, especially against pale plaster. Beside a bed or in a reading nook a quiet motif feels very right.
Paper and protection
Look at paper weight and sheet size. Keep the sheet out of the sun, because delicate pigments fade. Plenty of works on paper turn up among originals under 500 euro. An acid-free mat keeps the paper stable over the long run.
