Traces from many tools
Mixed media gives gestural painting extra means: charcoal draws, chalk scratches, paper sticks, paint covers. Expressive mixed-media paintings between 500 and 1,000 euro for sale are made for you if you like wild surfaces.
A picture arises from charcoal strokes, smears with the hand, sprayed areas, and applied paper. The gestural attitude stays, yet the material extends the expression. A line may be thin as graphite or broad as a brush pull. A ground of gesso may lie underneath.

Eye and hand
Mixed-media pictures become especially appealing when you get close. Then layers, breaks, and fine lines show. From a distance an energetic whole remains. Both perspectives make up the charm of such works. Do not hang the picture beside a radiator.
Check the workmanship
Ask how charcoal or pastel was fixed and which adhesives were used. Loose parts have no place on a wall. A frame with glass protects delicate surfaces but can produce reflections. A photo of the side edge shows the thickness of the build-up.
