Abundance, sheen, weight
Gestural oil lives on abundance: the paint lies rich and can be pulled, pushed, and taken off again. Expressive oil paintings between 500 and 1,000 euro for sale come on canvas, wood, or board.
Oil paint has body. Drawn across the surface with a knife, it leaves edges that catch light. Gestural painters rely on the paint itself becoming sculpture, with no motif but a strong presence.

Warm walls, cool walls
A gestural oil painting in red and ochre gives cool walls some warmth, while one in blue and black calms a busy room. On long walls a row of two or three formats with the same color theme is worth considering.
Caring for oil paint
Thickly applied oil paint needs time to dry and should not be touched while it is tacky. Ask about date and varnish. Remove dust dry, and keep water and cleaning products away from the paint layer.
