Two materials, one picture

Acrylic forms a stable layer on the canvas on which ink can draw lines, splashes, and fine gradients. Sometimes the ink lies beneath the acrylic and shows through, sometimes it moves across it like a drawing. The difference appears in raking light.

Room for canvas
Canvas pictures feel more direct without glass than works on paper and occupy a room differently. They need neither mat nor glazed frame, a wooden shadow-gap frame is enough. The edge of the canvas may be painted, which also allows free hanging.
Care and questions
Ask whether the picture is varnished, since varnish protects ink from dust and light. Remove dust with a soft brush. At 500 to 1,000 euro, medium to larger canvases are common among originals.
