Plane against plane
Cubism in oil on canvas joins construction with depth: planes that slide, and color that glows even in muted tones. Cubist oil paintings on canvas for sale in the 5,000 to 10,000 euro range are best chosen by plane structure and color chord.
The painter lays facets side by side like mosaic stones. Each has its own brightness and its own direction, and together they make a figure, a bottle, a landscape. Oil helps to set the transitions soft or hard in measured doses. Standing in front of the picture, you feel the eye travel from plane to plane and assemble the whole.

Warm earth colors
In ocher, sienna, umber and gray, oil develops special depth. Accents of blue or red then act like signals. Such palettes make pictures seem calm, almost sculptural, without turning dull.
Care and planning
Check varnish, stretcher and condition of the canvas. With larger formats, wall thickness matters for hanging. Ask about the certificate of authenticity and signature, and plan transport packing. With earth tones in particular, a look in daylight is worthwhile, since artificial light quickly shifts ocher and gray.
