Brush and chalk in the same picture
Oil on canvas with oil pastel unites two oil relatives: paint from the tube and chalk from the stick. Paintings in this combination from 5,000 to 10,000 euro are for sale here, with lines and planes that work into each other.
On a fully dry oil layer, oil pastel sits well: it draws, emphasizes, sets highlights. Conversely, oil over chalk creates slight reactions that some artists use on purpose. Both materials share the oil binding and join without a break. A slow, careful look shows where the brush ends and the chalk begins.

Keeping 5,000 to 10,000 euro in view
At this level, originals mean large canvases, experienced positions and elaborate framing. The description should name ground, varnish and the order of materials. That eases care and restoration in later years.
Care and place
Oil paintings demand even temperature and humidity. Do not hang the picture above a radiator or in direct sun. Stronger chalk areas are soft, so do not touch them and do not wipe them.
