When oil carries the rust
An oil painting on canvas with rust holds two time scales: the patient drying of the oil and the fast growth of oxidation. Here you can find oil-on-canvas paintings with rust for sale that make both visible.
Oil settles richly and with a slight gloss over the rough zones. Where the painter leaves the rust layer open, grain and orange come forward, and where oil is drawn across it, the rims turn soft and deep. The canvas gives the whole a firm, slightly springy ground.

Hanging as oil paintings are used to
An oil painting dislikes constant damp and drafts. A living or work room is ideal, a bathroom less so. With a shadow-gap frame in oak or black, the rust tone looks as if it were set in a mount.
To clarify before purchase
It pays to ask about varnish, drying and rust sealing. If you prefer an abstract approach, Abstract is the right place.
