Open in technique and support
When abstract painting does not prescribe a technique, the build of the picture gains weight: rhythm, color chord, and surface carry alone. You can look at abstract paintings for sale between 1,000 and 2,000 euro with an eye for tension and composition.
The category painting covers paint on canvas, wood, or paper, thinly glazed or thickly troweled. Abstract here means that color, texture, and line themselves are the subject. Look closer and you often find overpainted layers, scratch marks, or flecks that reveal how the picture came about.

Strength from the surface
Abstract pictures at this price level often have the size to shape a room. They work on an empty wall as well as in contrast to books and furniture. A trial hang with cardboard cut to the same size quickly shows whether the format suits the wall.
Details that count
Watch for notes on the type of paint, support, and varnish. With thick paint, the depth of the picture matters; with works on paper, the glass. A good description also names hanging and weight, especially when the frame is heavy.
