Outline meets grain
A charcoal drawing with lettering, a grid or a boldly set figure looks like a design for a poster that was never printed. Graphic charcoal drawings in an illustrative style for sale draw people in with that blend of hardness and handmade irregularity.
Charcoal gives broad, dark lines that fray slightly at the edges. That adds life to graphic motifs, something a pen with an even tip could not offer. Typographic work plays with this blur: letters look painted instead of set, and you feel the hand.

Format, margin and frame
For sheets with lettering, choose a frame that does not cover the margins. Deep black on light paper works best with a mat that is not colored, and a warm white beats pure white. Ask whether the sheet was fixed before you have it framed.
Original or print?
With graphic charcoal, drawing and print are easily confused. You recognize an original by the grain shadow of the charcoal on the paper and by slight irregularities in the black. A print looks even and shows dots under a loupe.
