Original artwork description

Unfolding is a charcoal portrait exploring the space between presence and abstraction. The face emerges from layers of gestural marks, fragmented lines and deep shadows, while parts of the figure remain deliberately unresolved.

The closed eyes and softened features create an inward, suspended quality, contrasting with the energetic marks surrounding the figure. Rather than presenting a fully defined portrait, the work allows the subject to gradually dissolve into the charcoal itself, capturing a moment that feels both intimate and fleeting.
