Two pigments, one sheet
Pastel over a charcoal framework joins the dark and the luminous: below, charcoal carries the structure, above, color lies like dust on the paper. Pastel drawings with charcoal for sale come in styles such as impressionism or photorealism, and in the tier 1,000 to 2,000 euro.
Charcoal gives pastel a grip that light paper alone cannot offer. The color layer looks deeper, outlines stay strong even when colors blend softly. Typical are portraits, landscapes and still lifes in which shadows come from the charcoal black.

Delicate and fine
Pastel and charcoal are both neither waterproof nor smudge-proof. A frame with glass and enough spacing is a must, ideally with UV protection. The listing should state paper type and fixing. Sheets in the tier from 1,000 to 2,000 euro are usually larger and more elaborately worked.
Large chalks, fine paper
On sheets in the 1,000 to 2,000 euro tier you often see color layers built up over days. Ask about fixing and format, since larger pastels need a sturdy backing and glass with spacing.
