While the idea is still warm
A surreal sketch often catches the moment when a strange idea is just taking shape, with guide lines and corrections still visible. Surrealist sketches for sale under 500 euro bring you quite close to how a draftsperson thinks.
A sketch leaves open what a finished picture would smooth over: a shifted horizon, a hand allowed to run too long, an object halfway into becoming another. The restlessness of the line is part of the appeal.

Small on the wall, close up
Sketches suit small formats and near viewing. Several sheets in matching narrow frames above a dresser read like a notebook on the wall. A white mat gives the strokes room to breathe.
Check paper and condition
Sketch sheets are often thinner or softer in the paper than exhibition pieces. Ask about the paper type, any toning, and marks along the edges, and note whether the signature sits on the front or the back.
