For the most part I can be said to be self-taught in the sense that I did not attend any formal art school but I also learned traditional painting methods independently and from fellow academic painters. After learning about Flemish techniques, I became an understandable language of old masters. I use all of this knowledge in my paintings, and, of course, I'm still learning.
