Tension from line and plane
Abstract metal gives up the recognizable and shows bending, cutting, edge and center of gravity instead. You can find abstract metal sculptures from 500 to 1,000 euro for sale when you want clear forms with weight.
A good abstract metal sculpture lives on contrasts: thin against massive, curve against edge, open against closed form. The material is bent, cut and welded until the balance is right. You can tell because the eye never snags but follows the form.

Shadows belong to it
Sheet metal and wire throw shadows that become part of the work. Put it where light falls at an angle, against a pale wall or a white board. Then the drawing on the surface is read along with it. Gloss or matte on the surface changes this effect as well.
Detail questions
Ask about the type of metal and treatment, such as blackening, powder coating or wax. Check the foot: it should stand securely without tipping. A signature on the underside and dimensions including depth belong in the description.
