When the wood is the motif
A block of wood can become a form that recalls nothing and yet convinces at once. You can look for abstract wood sculptures from 1,000 to 2,000 euro for sale when curve, edge and grain should play the lead.
Without a subject the grain gets a bigger role. The sculptor places cuts so the rings run across the form like contour lines. Smoothly sanded swells ask to be touched, rough strokes show the tool. Depending on intent, either reads as calm or energetic.
