Clay as the form-giver
Fired clay and abstract form suit each other because the material makes every decision of the hand visible. Abstract sculptures in clay for sale fit rooms that love structure.
Clay can be pressed, folded, cut and rejoined without losing cohesion. Abstract sculptors use this for pieces folded from slabs or stacked from coils. After firing comes a skin of glaze, slip or bare body, and the form becomes final. Fine hairlines often appear at the rim and are part of the story.

Sound and care
A properly fired body rings brightly when tapped lightly. Ask about the firing temperature and whether the piece is frost-resistant if it is meant for a sheltered courtyard. Indoors, dry dusting is enough. Let sunlight graze it if you like, but never let water stand. If a piece went through several firing stages, the description usually says so, and it is also the place to ask about cracks in the body.
